Chief Operating Officer (COO) - Roofing & Exterior Construction

Allied Roofing & Construction
$110,000.00 - $140,000.00 per year

Allied Roofing & Construction

Chief Operating Officer (COO) - Roofing & Exterior Construction

Location: Lodi, NJ | On-site

Job Type: Full-Time | Executive Leadership

Build the operation. Lead the people. Help shape the future of an established New Jersey roofing and exterior construction company.

We're looking for an experienced, hands-on operations executive who knows how to turn an ambitious business vision into consistently strong execution.

If you've successfully led operations for a roofing or exterior contracting company, built accountable teams, improved profitability, and helped a business scale, this could be the leadership opportunity you've been looking for. This isn't a position for someone who simply wants to supervise projects or manage from behind a desk. We're looking for a business-minded operator who can take ownership, solve problems, develop people, and help lead the company into its next chapter.

About Allied Roofing & Construction

Allied Roofing & Construction has served New Jersey since 2005, providing residential and commercial roofing, siding, windows, exterior improvements, repairs, and related construction services.

We believe in quality workmanship, honest communication, strong customer relationships, and delivering on our commitments.

As we continue developing our business, including our commercial roofing and service capabilities, we're looking to strengthen the leadership and operational systems that will support long-term success.

Our philosophy is straightforward: No Problems, Only Solutions.

We value people who take initiative, accept accountability, communicate clearly, and focus on making things better.

The Opportunity

As Chief Operating Officer, you'll work directly alongside company ownership to translate strategic goals into measurable operational results.

You'll serve as the primary leader responsible for coordinating and improving day-to-day business operations, developing the management team, strengthening accountability, and ensuring the company can grow without sacrificing profitability, quality, or customer satisfaction.

We're looking for someone who understands the realities of running a construction business--from sales commitments and estimating to scheduling, production, subcontractor performance, cash flow, and the customer experience.

Most importantly, we want someone who has done this before and can demonstrate the results.

Key Responsibilities

Executive Leadership & Business Growth

  • Partner with ownership to develop and execute strategic and operational plans.
  • Translate company goals into clear priorities, departmental objectives, and measurable performance indicators.
  • Lead operational planning and execution across residential roofing, commercial roofing, exterior improvements, and service operations.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, profitability, capacity, and sustainable growth.
  • Establish the systems, processes, and organizational structure needed to support an expanding business.

Team Leadership & Accountability

  • Lead, coach, and hold accountable department managers, project managers, production personnel, and operational support teams.
  • Establish clear roles, responsibilities, expectations, and performance standards throughout the organization.
  • Develop leadership talent and strengthen communication between departments.
  • Implement practical management routines, scorecards, and accountability systems.
  • Create an environment where problems are addressed, commitments are honored, and results are measured.

Production & Operational Excellence

  • Oversee the performance of roofing and exterior construction operations, from project handoff through completion.
  • Ensure effective scheduling, labor allocation, subcontractor coordination, material management, and quality control.
  • Improve coordination between sales, estimating, production, and customer service.
  • Develop repeatable processes that minimize delays, unnecessary costs, callbacks, and rework.
  • Support safe working practices, consistent workmanship, and a positive customer experience.

Financial & Performance Management

  • Take ownership of operational performance, project profitability, and cost control.
  • Work with ownership and financial personnel to monitor budgets, gross margins, labor efficiency, and operating expenses.
  • Establish and track meaningful KPIs that provide visibility into company performance.
  • Identify operational bottlenecks, address underperformance, and implement corrective action.
  • Help ensure that business growth translates into stronger financial results.

Systems & Continuous Improvement

  • Evaluate existing workflows, management systems, and technology to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Establish scalable processes for project tracking, reporting, communication, and decision-making.
  • Reduce dependence on ownership for routine operational decisions.
  • Create greater predictability and accountability throughout the business.
  • Introduce improvements that are practical, measurable, and sustainable.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • Significant senior-level operations or general management experience in roofing, exterior construction, home improvement, or a closely related specialty contracting business.
  • Demonstrated success managing multiple departments, teams, and operational functions.
  • Proven experience improving operational efficiency, profitability, and organizational performance.
  • Strong understanding of construction production, scheduling, project management, labor, and subcontractor coordination.
  • Financial acumen, including experience managing budgets, project margins, and performance metrics.
  • Ability to develop and hold managers accountable without requiring constant direction from ownership.
  • Strong communication, decision-making, conflict-resolution, and problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness to be actively involved in both office operations and field-level realities.
  • Ability to work on-site in Northern New Jersey.

Highly Preferred

  • Direct leadership experience with a roofing contractor, particularly one operating in both residential and commercial markets.
  • Experience helping a small or mid-sized contracting business scale successfully.
  • Previous experience as a COO, General Manager, VP of Operations, or Director of Operations with substantial business-wide responsibility.
  • Experience introducing structured management systems, KPIs, scorecards, and organizational accountability.
  • Familiarity with EOS-style operating principles or similar business management frameworks.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop management teams and improve operational performance without sacrificing customer service or company culture.

We're more interested in what you've accomplished than the title you've held.

If you've served as a General Manager or Director of Operations but have genuinely owned business outcomes and led an organization toward measurable growth, we'd be interested in hearing from you.

What Success Looks Like

The right COO will make a meaningful difference in how Allied operates.

Success in this role means:

  • Ownership can focus more effectively on company vision, business development, and strategic relationships.
  • Managers understand their responsibilities and are accountable for delivering results.
  • Sales, estimating, production, and service departments operate as a coordinated business.
  • Projects are completed with greater consistency, efficiency, and profitability.
  • Financial and operational performance is visible, measurable, and actively managed.
  • The business has stronger systems, capable leaders, and the operational capacity to pursue growth confidently.

We're not expecting someone to change everything overnight. We are expecting a leader who can evaluate the business, establish priorities, execute improvements, and demonstrate measurable progress.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Performance-based incentive opportunity tied to agreed-upon operational and business objectives.
  • Paid time off.
  • Health insurance benefit.
  • Long-term leadership opportunity with meaningful influence over business operations and growth.

Final compensation, incentive structure, and benefit details will be established during the hiring process.
